Add a description to a photo

A short description turns a photo into a record of what happened — what you saw, which panel, what the reading means. Descriptions travel with the photo and can be searched later. You can add or edit them in the app and on the web.
On the web
In the sidebar, open Media. You can also open a photo from an item's Media tab.
Open Details. Select the pencil next to Description, type the note, then save. You can edit Location here too. The web is type-only — no dictation.
In the app
After capture, tap Description on the action bar. You can also open a saved photo and tap the keyboard icon.
Type your note, or tap the mic to dictate. The hint reads Optional description — type or tap the mic to dictate. When it shows Listening…, speak; tap the mic again to stop.
Tap Done. The description stays with the photo and can be searched later.
Tips
- Descriptions are optional. There is no separate caption field.
- On mobile you can dictate: tap the mic, allow microphone access, speak while it shows Listening…, then tap again. You will see Description added. Dictation runs on the device. The web is type-only.
- Photo location can be edited on the web but not changed on mobile after saving.
